If you’re looking for a little workaway time, Penang is a great place to be for the digital nomad! It’s always full of life so there’s always something to explore when you’re there. With plenty of opportunities for coworking in Penang, its no wonder that travellers and nomads from all over the world are stopping by this island. Here are some things that you could do:
Where should I visit?
Penang is home to many places of interest due to its rich history and culture. Visit Kek Lok Si to get a look into local customs and traditions, practiced in the temple. The Penang Botanical Gardens is also a great place if you’re looking for a jog and be close to nature. Take the funicular up to Penang Hill and take in the gorgeous view of Penang at sunset.
What should I eat?
It’s a melting pot of cuisines and spectacular street food. Char Kuey Teow is a great stir fried noodle dish that’s served in the morning many kopitiams or local coffee shops. For lunch, we’d recommend Nasi Kandar; fluffy white rice served with a generous splash of curries and gravies of your choice. Local snacks and sweets are also abundant in places like Lebuh Keng Kwee so don’t miss out on that one.
Where to stay?
Since it’s boom in tourism, there are an abundance of places to stay in Penang. Georgetown has hostels and townhouse lodges that are great for nomads who wish to be near the city. If you prefer being close to the beach instead, Batu Feringghi’s seaside chalets and hostels are pretty affordable, as well as being only a car ride away from Georgetown.
If you’re considering settling in Penang next, keep in mind that you’ll be making a great decision! There are plenty of things to explore and discover and the local communities are always welcoming if you’re respectful. Looking for a place to work on the island?
